We recently had the pleasure to chat with former Chicago White Sox fan favorite and World Series Champion, Brian Anderson. Brian is a product of the University of Arizona & Canyon del Oro High School in Arizona. In high school Brian played along his best friend Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers.
Just a few questions from our chat:
We know your a White Sox guy…Were you pulling for the Cubs? For sure. It was great for the city. People were losing their minds.
What was you favorite moment of your World Series win with the White Sox? Probably Pods walk off.
Most White Sox remember that great World Series walk-off, only the 14 in MLB history. Pods’ walk off came in Game 2 of the 2005 Series, he was facing Brad Lidge of the Houston Astros. Let’s walk down memory lane…Brad Lidge was in the game, he was lights out for the Astros all year. Coming to the plate was Pods & White Sox fans just hoped for contact because of this speed on the bases. Scott Podsednik took a 2-1 fastball and made contact, that ball just carried and carried (Brian & Aaron Rowand were in the dugout…say “No Way, No Way!!”) in the right field…HOME-RUN!! Comiskey Park (yes, we do know they call it something else) just hit a 10 on the Richter scale! Pods had not hit a home run during the regular season and only had 1 hit in the ALDS prior.
Do you still keep in touch with any of your former teammates? A bunch. Some more than others. Pods, JD, Crede, AJ, PK.
These guys were not your flashy superstars, these guys truly played baseball as a team. This team fit the characteristics as the team from the South-Side of Chicago was known for & the city loved every single one of them. To this day, over 12 years later fans still talk about these guys.
What do you think of the White Sox off season trades? Big moves. I like them. Solid pieces to rebuild.
The White Sox during this current off-season have decided to go full throttle towards rebuilding. They traded away their big, young left Chris Sales along with Adam Eaton. Based on talks, looks like the White Sox are still not done…with Todd Frazier and Jose Quintana on the trading block. Personally, after the 2005 World Series win, I feel that they went away from the daily grind baseball that won them the world series and went for the bigger names or the glamour players.
Would you have traded away Chris Sales? I think you have to go big or rebuild. The A’s approach is overrated. Sale had to go to rebuild.
The White Sox traded their top ace to the Red Sox in exchange for prospects Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz.
What endeavors are you involved in right now? I work for a genetics lab based out of California. Vantari Genetics. And I’m going to do some TV
Well we wish Brian the best in his future endeavors and thank him for taking us down memory lane. Make sure to keep tabs on Brian via Twitter @WWBAD32.
