In the world we live in today, many males are becoming increasingly more comfortable doing things that would be considered ‘unmanly’ by others. Thankfully, as our society begins to change to be more open-minded, we can see progress in the way that people carry themselves. American males especially have a tendency to try and avoid conduct that might not be seen as ‘tough’ or stoic. We’ll see how Robert Griffin inspired males to use a baby carrier, but first, let’s see who Robert Griffin is.
Given the importance that male role models play in our world, it should come as no surprise that people look up to the likes of Robert Griffin III. The former football quarterback, a former Washington Redskins pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, enjoyed a successful career. From 2012 to 2020 he played in the NFL, playing for teams like the Redskins, the Cleveland Browns, and the Baltimore Ravens.
More important than his success on the field, though, has been his hugely impressive impact off it. Recently, he posted a very important photo on Twitter: it showed him carrying his daughter, Gia, in a baby carrier
For any father out there, you will know the social stigma that is unfairly attached to males using baby carriers. They are seen as effeminate – ‘guys carry their babies in their arms’ etc. – but they are extremely useful tools. For many males, it is yet another tool that could be used to make their lives easier if they did not worry about what the world thought.
Seeing a former pro athlete like Griffin III using one, though, might help a lot of guys to see that this train of thought is unhelpful to themselves and their families.
How Robert Griffin III got other dads to join in on the craze
So, when Griffin III posted this adorable image, he immediately followed it up with a tweet asking that other dads join in. In the tweet, he said: “Dads post a pic of you with your baby in a carrier. This is a safe space.”
Immediately, replies started to roll in of other guys – famous or otherwise – joining in with the craze. An early response came from E.J. Lovett, who posted a photo of himself with his child captioning it: ‘I know the struggle bruh.’
It did not take long for other dads to start joining in, too, with many photos turning up in a short space of time. These started to garner quite a lot of likes, too, hopefully helping guys to realize that using something like a baby carrier is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
Griffin III, of course, was famous for his runaway interview in 2022 during the Fiesta Bowl. During a session providing coverage for the event, he had to escape mid-session to go to be part of Gia’s birth. Having always shown himself to be a family-minded guy in his social media posts, affirmative content like the baby carrier post can only be a positive thing for the future.
If even one guy realizes that using a baby carrier is not a ‘weak’ thing to do, then it would be fair to say that this post has more than done its job.
