Most Enthralling & Enjoyable Shows
I’m not a huge fan of stage productions, purely because I’m too fidgety to sit at still for so long, but my friend decided to book us tickets for the Zarkana stage promotion, directed by Francois Girard. I’d heard the name before but didn’t associate any of his work in my mind – but come the end of the night I always would. As a show, it’s one of the most enthralling and enjoyable shows I’ve witnessed in some time – it brought a great deal of life to the theatre and it was a thoroughly enjoyable acting performance.
The story was a little perplexing to me, following a magician who has lost his love of all thing magic. The title of the story, Zarkana, is a mix between the words “arcana” or magic and “bizarre”. The thought process behind the entire story is clearly a little bit beyond my own understanding, but I loved the performance of those who took part in the show.
Breathtaking Acrobatics
For a start, the set and technical detail that went into the development of the show is absolutely insane – I won’t go into key details about the set as it might ruin the story but it’s safe to say that the set plays a huge part in the development of the entire thing. The acrobatics that take place throughout are truly breathtaking as well – I usually only see this kind of stuff on the Olympics, but it was truly a sight to behold as some really extreme acrobatic events take place throughout the show.
The LEDs were also pretty glaring at times, and the sliding stage helped avoid any slowdown between transitions from set to set. Overall it was really a bit weird going to such a technologically advanced theatre production, providing me with a whole new insight into how this type of thing works. Zarkana itself was a whole new thing for me, too, so it was great to see how the intelligent story and in-depth characters were portrayed on a stage. As somebody who usually prefers books & movies, perhaps it’s time that I gave some more credit to the world of theatre.
We Recommend Zarkana
If you haven’t been for years, or have never been before, I’d recommend Zarkana. The story is weird enough to keep you very much intrigued and the characters are deep enough to keep you well entertained in the story and the going on in front of you – well worth a visit for those who are intrigued by the world of theatre.
