First saw Walking with Dinosaurs on the Ellen Show when she interviewed the “apparently” kid, Noah Ritter. They had a dinosaur come out at the end of the show and I was really impressed by the quality and liveliness of the dinosaur, it really looked like the real thing. So when I saw that Walking with Dinosaurs was coming to town, I thought this would be a great show to take my eight year old son to, but little did I know that my pre-teen daughter wanted to go as well (this had me worried, she’s really hard to please).
The Performance
Show starts and you have a couple small dinosaurs come out and first thing you notice is just how real these look. I looked over at both the kids and they were already hooked into the story. These dinosaurs are definitely not your low budget ones that you see at theme parks; not only did they look great, they moved with such grace. The dinosaurs weren’t the only things that was great; both the lighting and sound were superb, it really brought you into the show…made you feel like you were out there walking with the dinosaurs in the fields. It does get loud in there, so that might scare a couple of the younger kids, especially if they’re not ready for it.
As each story was told by our narrator, they dinosaurs get bigger and louder. The story line was about the rise and fall of the dinosaurs. It made you realize that regardless of size, they acted just like animals of today; there was a story of birth and survival right off the bat, living in herds to protect one another, the passing of the reign from old to young, and in the end the story of a mother’s love. Its just hard to grasps that these large dinosaurs acted just like our animal species of today.
Walking with Dinosaurs was a Roar
The Moda Center had a really nice turn out for a Wednesday showing at 7 pm. This show was great entertainment but also a great learning adventure. The whole way home all the kids was talk about the dinosaurs and making plans to go see them at the museum. Even though this isn’t your typical holiday theme show in December, its still a great one for the whole family…and yes even for your pre & teen daughters.
