UO Sweeps Doubleheader with Huskies

Cheridan Hawkins tossed her second shutout of the day and No. 2 ranked Oregon blanked No. 5 ranked Washington, 4-0, to sweep a doubleheader at Howe Field.

EUGENE, Ore. – Cheridan Hawkins tossed her second shutout of the day and the No. 2 ranked Oregon softball team blanked No. 5 ranked Washington, 4-0, to sweep a Pac-12 doubleheader at Howe Field. In addition to the 4-0 win in the second game, Oregon also run-ruled Washington, 8-0, in five innings to win the first game of the doubleheader.

The Ducks (29-4, 5-0 Pac-12) tallied four runs on seven hits with one error while the Huskies (21-9, 2-5) posted no runs on six hits with one error.

Hawkins (17-2) picked up the win after allowing six hits and three walks over seven innings with five strikeouts. She allowed just two hits over five innings in the first game on less than 70 pitches. The sophomore has given up only three earned runs over her four Pac-12 starts this season, with a 4-0 record in those games.

While Hawkins had a big early lead in the first game, when the Ducks posted six runs in the second inning, it was tighter in the second game.

The game was scoreless until the third, when Alyssa Gillespie reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and then scored when Janie Takeda singled to center. Oregon eventually added two more runs in the fifth inning, coming on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a passed ball.

The three run lead would have been more than enough for Hawkins, but Janelle Lindvall added another with a solo homer to right in the sixth inning, her fifth of the season.

Courtney Ceo, a game after breaking the UO careers runs scored record, had another great game for the Ducks, going 3-for-4 with another run scored. She now has 157 in her career, breaking the previous mark of 154.

Lindvall had two hits while Takeda and Nikki Udria also had a knock in the game.

The Ducks will look to sweep the three-game series from the Huskies at 3 p.m. on Sunday in a Pac-12 Networks televised game.
