We would like to start off by thanking all our readers for all of the wonderful suggestions on what to do during the Winter Break. There were several great suggestions from our readers that we tried; Mt. Hood, Polar Express, Zoo Lights & even Leavenworth however there was one that stood out…and that was the Sunriver Resort in central Oregon.
So we packed up the kids (head count of course) in the car and off to Sunriver Resort it was. We took US-26 up there…traffic wasn’t too bad considering it was winter break. Another option to get there & we took this on the way back, was to go down towards Salem, over on US-22 then onto US-20; the roads were in real good condition going that way & you miss all the Mt. Hood traffic.
Upgrade to the Suite
After driving for a few hours we pulled up to check in & was offered to upgrade to a suite…why not, its winter break!!! Let me start off by saying that the upgrade is a must, for the extra $50 or so its a no brainier!!! So we had one regular room for the kids and one suite for the adults with a connecting doorway. The 2 story suite was beautiful with a great kitchen and eating area topped off with a beautiful fireplace. Not to forget a great deck that you could watch the kids from. We were traveling with smaller kids & it was great to let them play outside all they wanted while watching them from the other side of the glass wall!
Sunriver Resort offers numerous things to do while at the resort; and you’re also a short distance from the Village where you can get some coffee, a bite to eat, do a little shopping (retail and grocery) as well as ice-skating and inner tubing. You’re also only a 15 minute car ride from Mt. Bachelor. There really is something to do for everyone at Sunriver regardless of age.
Not just winter time
Not only is this place great for winter, but we checked out the summer activities and those are just as good or even better; oh and dad’s, their golf course is great! We will definitely be returning for the summer and letting our readers know how it goes.
