When I first got the opportunity to use the new Kershaw Launch 2, I was a bit underwhelmed after having so much fun with previous models. This felt very similar to old designs and therefore it did not seem to offer me anything new and original – then, I got a few hours of playing around with it and comparisons.
I have to say that, after several weeks of usage and enjoyment, I can vouch for the Launch 2 as being one of the easiest to use automatic knives that I’ve owned. The Launch 2 is a fine automatic knife that kicks open like a shotgun, and gives you plenty of quality within the knife itself – you’ll have no problem with cutting through objects when using this piece of kit, that’s for sure.
The Design
Slick and smooth, the Launch 2 can rip through just about anything within reason and can be used for outdoors trips with ease. It serves as a strong and sturdy ally on the field, and with the extra strong kick you’ll be sure to have an automatic knife that comes out without any issues for many more years to come.
This is due to the smart design on the interior, using a fine CPM154 blade steel set which was all put together in the Tualatin, Oregon manufacturing location. This ensures that you are left with a knife that holds no fear of anything in its way, as well as having the durability that you would be hoping for from a long-term ally.
The stonewashed blade also ensures that you are left with a knife that looks great, with fingerprints not showing up nor will any kind of damage to the blade. This just makes the whole package look a whole lot smarter than it would with other metals used.
The Quality
The actual usage of the knife is hugely impressive, and does a great job of giving you access to the blade steel which offers you a more uniform layer of distribution of the carbides. This means that the edge is going nowhere, and that it will maintain that quality for years to come.
It has high resistance against wear and tear as well as corrosion, so you can be sure it will retain that sturdy nature for many years to come without blunting on your end, removing any kind of maintenance to return it to its beautiful best.
The quality of the blade is not in dispute, as it can be used to give you a smug fit and a comfortable grip in your hand – it can even be clipped to a pocket with minimal fuss. The whole blade can be used both left and right handed – just release the lock with your index finger instead of your thumb!
The Verdict
This knife will be a solid ally that you could rely upon outside with no problems at all. The recessed push button means that you can open it up with ease and don’t need to worry about cutting yourself along the way.
It’s a knife that you need to be careful with, but which can protect you and give you something reliable and long-term. A must have for knife lovers. Click for more info regarding the Kershaw Launch..
