Oregon Ducks – Oregon State Beavers – Civil War

Oregonians pride themselves on being Oregonians. They love helping one another out, they love supporting local businesses and products, and they love anything that defines the Oregon spirit. Well, all of the “love” is put to the side come the Civil War; it becomes a state divided & if you think you don’t have a dog in the fight, your wrong; you have to pick…Beaver or Duck. Now that’s really the age ol’ question here in Oregon…are you yellow and green or black and orange.

Regardless of what team you cheered for, the atmosphere in Corvallis was buzzing this Civil Ware game day! Fans heckling one another out in the parking lots, cheers and chants were going on while you waited in line and you even had dueling marching bands out on the field; this was going to be a great game!!!

Well that was true until the first series of the game; just 2 minutes and thirty-three seconds into the game and Super Mario connected with a 29 yard touchdown pass to Charles Nelson.

The Ducks controlled the first quarter and they didn’t take their foot off the gas, with just a few seconds into the 2nd quarter Marcus Mariota threw his 2nd touchdown of the game to Royce Freeman to make it 16-0. It didn’t get any better for the Beavers, on the next series they went 3 and out and gave the ball back to Oregon. Well, it only took Mariota 38 seconds to score with a 77 yard TD pass to Bryon Marshall & on their following series Super Mario used his feet to get to the endzone on a 23 yard TD run. The Beavers defense didn’t have an answer to the Marcus equation. To close out the first half, the Beavers did put on an impressive series, however they were only able to get a field goal out of it. The Beavers went into the locker room trailing 30-3 at the half.

In the 3rd quarter the Beavers did keep a little of that momentum going from the first half when they marched down the field and capped it off with a Sean Mannion 20 yard touchdown pass to Hunter Jarmon, cutting into the Ducks lead of 33-10. Unfortunilty for the Beavs the Ducks had Mariota; on the very next series they went 72 yards on 7 plays and Mariota finished it himself with his second rushing TD; a 1 yard TD run.

The Beavers were able to put a few drives together at the end of the game, however it was just a little to late for that. Sean Mannion’s great college career ends on a bitter note for this standout; but we’re sure better things await for him in the NFL. Storm Woods also had a great night running the ball, rushed for 128 yards and a TD. Final score of the 118th Civil War was; Oregon Ducks 47 – Oregon State Beavers 19. The Civil War is the 5th longest rivalry in college football. The season ends for the Beavers, however the Ducks hope to continue their success next week as the plan for revenge against Arizona in the Pac-12 championship game at Levi Stadium..
