Charlotte’s Web at the Oregon Children’s Threatre Review

Classic Novel

Charlotte’s Web is a classic children’s novel.  Its the adventure of just how a small young girl named Fern Arable, with the aid of a helpful spider, protected her pig…and friend Wilbur from the far to common destiny regarding overweight little pigs.

Wilbur is born on winter night as the runt of the litter. Fern’s father, Mr. Arable determines that the little piglet must get the axe.  It might seems cruel now, but Mr. Arable knows that in the long run its better and must be done. However the compassionate little Fern intervenes and is able to change Mr. Arable’s mind and have her father spare Wilbur’s life. Fern takes care of little Wilbur all through the winter.  When Wilbur get’s bigger Mr. Arable and Fern have to take Wilbur down the street to another farm because they could no longer take care of him, but Fern would still be able to see him almost every day. Wilbur’s every day life is practically perfect up until he finds out his destiny; that of becoming a nice juicy ham (and bacon) for the upcoming winter. Mortified, Wilbur  tries to frantically find a doorway for his getaway. However poor little Wilbur didn’t realize that he wouldn’t be able to make it out in the world, if anything, it would bring him closer to destiny a whole lot sooner. At that moment Charlotte is determined to come up with a plain to save little Wilbur.

Everyone Can Associate

Charlotte’s Web has numerous fascinating personalities which everyone can associate with. The youthful Wilbur, the compassionate spider Charlotte and Fern; even the rat doing favors for Wilbur. Charlotte’s Web brought back so many memories of reading this story back when I was in school. As I looked over to my little ones,  I could see their little eyes taking every moment in; that opened up the memory bank to a time when my day’s were simple and you took pleasure in the smaller things in life. Charlotte’s Web is a tale of camaraderie, commitment, as well as determination. The story is full of teachings which any individual along with grown-ups can easily gain knowledge from.
